Wedding Dresses

I choose to research the history of wedding dresses for many reasons. First, as wedding dresses are a source of amazement for me, I thought it would be fun to find out the history of them and understand more about their importance. Wedding dresses are a very important part to the most important day of some people's lives, and I want to further investigate their significance. Wedding dresses have been, and probably always will be, beautiful and special to every girl's wedding.

Here comes the bride.... The best Wedding Dresses in History

As established in my last post, wedding dresses have been prominent in weddings for a very long time.  Wedding dresses have always been a centerpiece in weddings.  Here are a few, but most certainly not all, influential and gorgeous wedding dresses that have been worn by important women throughout history.

1. Queen Victoria to Prince Albert

Queen Victoria is largely credited to starting the trend of the white wedding dress.  Her dress started a wave of trends, all being white and fairly modest.

2.  Grace Kelly to the Prince of Monaco

The American Grace Kelly married The Prince of Monaco in 1956.  She married him in a lace dress with long sleeves--inspiring people across the world.  Her dress also served as an inspiration for princess bride Kate Middleton.

3. Jackie Bouvier Kennedy to John Kennedy

Jackie Kennedy's dress, made by African-American designer Ann Lowe, is a ivory-silk-taffeta dress.  This dress was new and different to the times and cause a wave of similar dresses.

4. Princess Diana

Princess Diana's iconic wedding dress was as over the top as her elaborate wedding.  It had a 25-foot train, big, puffy sleeves, and a classic princess ballgown.  Princess Diana's dress is now valued as priceless.

4. Duchess of Cambridge Catherine Middleton

Kate's dress was designed by Sara Burton for Alexander McQueen.  As it was inspired by Grace Kelly's bridal gown, Kate's dress has long lace sleeves and hand-embroidered dress with a 6 foot skirt.  Already thousands of copies have been made around the world, as Kate's dress serves as a huge inspiration for brides across the world.
